Soundbytes: Three Times The Fun With Three MoFi Reissues

A Goth Rock classic joins a Handy Man and a Disco King for this weeks Soundbytes!

From this week’sSoundbytes (and online at our always busy Facebook fan page): Three new Mobile Fidelity Releases are street bound, beginning with the 1977 smash in the continuing career of James Taylor. JT, his first release from Columbia, was a major break after his long career @ Warner Brothers, and the first hit album since 1970’s Sweet Baby James. With a bevy of great tracks, including Your Smiling Face, Handy Man, and Honey Don’t Leave LA, JT would continue the success track of this revered singer songwriter, well into the next century. MoFi makes good work of this SACD edition, extracting every nook and cranny of this exceptional performance.

Joining the MoFi Silver Series release train are two important LP’s from The Sisters Of Mercy and (gulp!) KC & The Sunshine Band. Considered a major stepping stone recording in the history of the Gothic Rock movement, First And Last And Always (from 1985) by the UK group Sisters Of Mercy, is a monumental recording with a blistering electronic rhythm layout and the haunting vocals of Andrew Eldritch.  1975 would be the year that Harry Wayne Casey (‘KC’) would attain Disco Superstar status with his debut as KC & The Sunshine Band – churning out three major top-40 hits (“Get Down Tonight,” “That’s the Way (I Like It),” “Boogie Shoes”), this MoFi Silver Series edition is mirror ball, dance floor cool!
